I hope you will try them out for yourself to help your teach storytelling!Īs to where or how you can get your hands on story dice: you can grab them here on Amazon*, or you can find a Tiger store near you (they are called Flying Tiger over here) and grab yourself a cheaper version! After so many years of teaching, I now own two Rory’s Story Cubes sets and two sets from Tiger. So this is my fun way of teaching storytelling to my students that are learning the target language! It’s a short activity that can fit in anywhere in the lesson: at the beginning to warm up students, as a brain break between more challenging activities, or at the end as a reward or review. You could even have them all tell a story using the same pictures each time and see what happens then! Teach short stories in a fun way Totally up to you, or to the students, if you want to give them some autonomy and choice. When the storyteller is done, the next student will start with step 1 again.Īgain, students can use the dice for telling a story out loud, or they can use them to write a story down.Īlternatively, at step 1, the students could also roll the dice one by one and add each element to the story as they are telling it.The other students in the small group can also see the pictures and help encourage the storyteller to use the remaining pictures in a fun way. When students feel confident, teams of three or four students at a time can then take their tales to other classes for a storytelling concert. From those pictures, the student constructs a story in which all the pictures, or most of them, play a role. Art History is Filled with Stories Storytellers on Tour Have students practice retelling folktales in their classroom. The student looks at all the pictures they have before them.A student rolls all the dice at the same time.So how do story dice work exactly? Here are the steps I use. These are the reasons why teaching through storytelling is so fun and useful at the same time! Using story dice And when they don’t understand they will also say so. This is still low pressure, but when other students think a story is funny they will laugh or when it is scary they will look scared. When they tell a story in a small group they get immediate feedback on whether they are doing well or not. Third, when telling stories, students have to use the right intonation and pronunciation of the words in order for their audience to get what they’re saying. So in telling stories students use knowledge they already gathered about the target language. Free Resources About 7 Storytelling Activities and Exercises to Create an Unforgettable Team Event MaDo you have a team-event coming up and you’re thinking, How can I make this the most fun and useful team event EVER If that’s the case, I’ve got something for you. Second, stories are descriptive, so students will have to think of the right words to tell their story, which they will retrieve from memory of what they have already learned. Stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end, and so when students tell a story they are forced to create some structure. Stories resonate with people across cultures and demographics inviting people to improvise in this space is effective for building group bonds, having fun, and improving teamwork. What makes storytelling effective for learning, you ask? There are a few reasons why I think storytelling is great for students to practice. When it comes to being creative and engaging with others, our storytelling instincts are a great place to play inside. I love getting my students to talk in the classroom! Benefits when you teach storytelling They can make them as easy or as hard as they want to fit their language level. The subject is close to home, or can be close to home, as students build their own stories. The story dice provide an easy way that is low pressure and, frankly, super fun for students to practice speaking the target language to their peers. Let me tell you how I use them in my lessons as a storytelling teaching strategy! Teaching with storiesįirst of all: why do I use story dice or cubes? The answer is because I want my students to practice speaking in the target language, and writing in the target language. Because each dice has six different pictures and all the dice have different ones on them the options are endless! These dice will really help to teach narrative writing as it will give students lots of ideas for fun pieces of a story. StoriumEDU is a collaborative writing game designed to help young writers build their confidence and skill. Students can use the dice for telling stories out loud to each other and practice speaking, or for writing practice. Students will throw all the dice simultaneously or one by one, and with the pictures that land on top they must create a story. Wanna know a really fun way to teach storytelling to your students while at the same time getting them to speak the target language? Then story dice or cubes are your answer! Story dice are a set of around nine dice with pictures on each side. My new Multi-Max paid for itself in one use and I have other projects lined up. You really saved my bacon! There are not a lot of 1/16th inch tools readily available in other brands. I do not know what I would have done without these Dremel tools. The two bits actually worked very well together. I used the new bit to get into tight spaces and the other bit to grind the deeper channels of the grout. The ENERTWIST oscillating tool is one of the best options for grout removal available, thanks to the powerful 4.2-amp motor and six variable speed settings. On my second bit, I was more careful with the pressure and it worked fine. I expected that and, even after my first bit snapped, I was able to use the remaining part very effectively and with much harder pressure. With excessive pressure the carbide tip of the bit will snap. I will give a few recommendations on this 1/16th inch bit. The marble tiles were placed very closely together in both bathrooms and the 1/16th inch tools fit perfectly. Both Dremel and accessories were invaluable. This Dremel grout removal bit is for for cleaning wall and floor grout or removing grout to replace broken tiles and is compatible with rotary tools/ 568. Designed for use with the 568 Grout Removal attachment. Can be used to replaced wall and floor grout or removing grout to replace broken tiles. (3.2 mm) Carbide Grout Removal bit is ideal for removing grout between tiles. Based on my past experience with Dremel and excellent 5-star reviews and 94 percent user recommendations, I also purchased a Dremel Multi-Max M35 and the half circle 1/16 inch grout tool. Designed for small repair jobs, the Dremel 570 1/8 In. DREMEL® Wall & Floor Grout Removal Kit 568 (1) Remove grout in between your tiles while having total control and precision. I had a rotary Dremel which I used the 569 Carbide Grout Removal bit tool on. Grout Removal Bits 1,6 mm 569 (1) Tip is generally less than the distance between wall tiles. More than a week later, I am finishing the grout removal project. I removed all grout from one bathroom and all connection area grout from the other. I also decided to check our other tiled bathroom. In addition, floor and wall tiles had issues. However, upon a closer examination, I noticed cracked grout in all major joints where wall, floor and ceiling walls met. Of course, it started with a door that needed minimal caulking. I recently discovered that two of our bathrooms needed grout work. "I love hanging out with all my friends, and I feel stronger every day." "I'm very happy to be home and getting back to the activities that I enjoy," she said. Gramstrup also read a statement on behalf of Jayme, who thanked everyone for the kindness and concern they have shown her. At a news conference Monday, Closs family attorney Chris Gramstrup said the teenager spent her summer hiking through state parks, reconnecting with friends and celebrating special occasions with her family - including her 14th birthday. Jayme has returned to school and lives with her aunt and uncle. The Closs family home is gone. A gas tank sitting on an empty lot along a wooded road, turned yellow and orange by the fall season, is all that remains of the site of two murders and an abduction. People are more vigilant and aware of their surroundings. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration (with wireless connectivity). The warning beeps from various systems are also loud and intrusive, to the point where they feel more like an annoyance than a welcome assist. Lane keeping assistance can be a bit twitchy, and on its medium or strong settings you sometimes feel like you're fighting the car to drive in a straight line. The wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration works smoothly too. On the upside, the configurable home screen is particularly useful in this car, to save you digging through menus for your commonly used commands. A lot of controls were buried multiple touches deep, and the voice commands haven't expanded their functionality to compensate. (We even encountered the occasional loading screen.) It was also saddled with an interface that's not the easiest to learn or navigate. How’s the tech? Our test vehicle's 10.1-inch touchscreen was impressively large and sharp, but at the same time it could be laggy and unresponsive. The optional surround-view camera helps a lot. Visibility is subpar because the thick pillars, high beltline and square hood make it more difficult than it should be to judge the position of such a relatively small vehicle. Some controls are only accessible through the touchscreen, which can be frustrating, and the driver information interface has a somewhat convoluted menu structure. The driver aid controls are next to the infotainment screen, for instance, and the infotainment controls are farther down on the center stack, mixed in with the climate controls. The placement of the different controls can be plain confusing. Getting in and out can also be problematic because of the squattish nature of the door openings.Īnother issue is that the Compass doesn't really make driving easy. There's also lots of rear legroom, though rear headroom is lackluster. Front passengers get generous headroom and legroom. A golfer who wants one, who believes one will aid his or her game, can buy one and incorporate it into a set. Sometimes they are sold as part of a base set, but more often attack wedges are sold as a separate, add-on club. So why not add another wedge to solve that 10ish-degree gap between the PW and SW?Īttack wedges started showing up with regularity in the 1990s, and are common today in the sets of golfers of all caliber. Most other iron clubs in the bag have gaps of about five degrees of loft. Attack wedges originated when manufacturers realized that many golfers not good enough to do so were trying hit a pitching wedge harder than normal or play a sand wedge softer than normal because of that large gap in loft between the two clubs. Most attack wedges are around 50 to 52 degrees in loft, the low 50s. If a manufacturer labels the club "attack wedge," it will probably have an "A" or "AW" stamped on the sole. As noted, gap wedge is the most common, but it is not rare to hear the club referred to by a golfer (or even a manufacturer) as "attack wedge." They can also be stamped on their sole "11-iron," although that is rare today. Other names for the attack wedge are approach wedge, A-wedge, auxiliary wedge and dual wedge. The attack wedge fills the gap in loft between the pitching wedge (mid-40 degrees in loft) and sand wedge (mid-50 degrees in loft), giving golfers a more precise club than those two to use when the yardage calls for it. The attack wedge, in other words, is the exact same thing as a gap wedge, which is the more commonly used term. In a set of golf irons/wedges with graduated lofts, the attack wedge falls in-between the pitching wedge and sand wedge. This versatile club is designed to bridge the gap between the pitching wedge and sand wedge, providing golfers with greater control and accuracy. There is a golf club that is part of the wedge family and that goes by several different names, one of which is "attack wedge." The attack wedge is high-lofted, used for shots into the green when precision is key - when you want to attack the pin position. The approach wedge degree is a crucial component of a golfer’s arsenal, allowing them to execute precise shots from a variety of distances. Ĭamtasia offers a higher level of flexibility in the number of media types that are available when producing a presentation, The developers using Camtasia can save the presentations as Adobe Flash, Windows Media streaming video, Quicktime movie, DVD-ready AVI video, iPod/iTunes video, RealMedia streaming media, MP3audio & animated GIF formats. You can utilize various tools included in the program to complete your video, These contain multiple Transition Options, Voice Narration, a Zoom and Pan effect, Cursor Effects, Captions, Quizzing & more, You can use built-in tools to enhance and improve the audio quality of your voice recording. But Camtasia in itself is a basic video editing software that you can pick up and use pretty easy, get your team started and make great videos.Camtasia l ooks professional, It offers Picture in Picture (PiP), It c an export in many different file types, It is m ore customizable, It has b ells & whistles, It presents m ultiple audio tracks, It has many features in the interface that makes creating screen videos & processing them, You can choose to record your entire screen or only a portion of it that you preset before recording begins. And then from there, maybe if it doesn't do enough, you can graduate to some of the more complex video editing softwares like Adobe Premiere Pro, those kinds of things. Now, it does take a little bit more advanced training in order for you to get there, to use some of those features, but it does have that embedded.īut if you're looking for something basic that your team can learn, that you can learn that you know nothing about video editing, Camtasia is a great place to start. You can add quizzes and different types of training courses into your actual video, which is pretty cool. But the reason why I like Camtasia, it actually integrates a lot of the training elements if you're in the training side of your business. So I would definitely recommend Camtasia if you are looking to do any type of videos for your company, whether it be for culture training. So we were pretty much up and running within a week's time. They also had help videos that you could do. And then from there, there were a couple training videos that you could watch on YouTube. It was really just as simple as downloading the software to your computer and getting as many licenses as you needed. So it was definitely really easy to start using and implement Camtasia. So it was just really a cool software to use, very easy and easy to learn, but it had everything that we needed to make a great video. And as I said, every year they would come out with a new version, an updated version, which if you already had the older version, you would pay just a minimal fee to upgrade to the new software. And from there, they were able to put in videos from raw video files that we've shot for training videos, culture videos, those kinds of things. I was able to teach a couple of my team members that have never used any type of video editing software in about a week's time. So I think one of the primary reasons why we chose Camtasia was, it was cost-effective and it was minimal training that you had to do in order to use it. And it allowed me also to implement different learning activities, which included quizzes, different things that you can click on the video, which I'm pretty sure you can do on Adobe Premiere Pro, but Camtasia just gave us the ability to learn a basic video editing software with minimal training. It's a very basic editing software for video. It was easy for myself to pick up, really start using from the very beginning. And I think the reason why we switched was, Camtasia was a lot easier for our whole entire team to use. We used Adobe Premiere Pro before we started using Camtasia. And for more reviews like this, click below. Glenn: Hi, my name is Glenn and I am a talent development manager, and I rate Camtasia a four stars out of five. |
